"You gave me roots - watch me grow"

Anne-Kathrine studied Design Technology, followed by Design and Business with a specialization in Fashion Design. We followed her journey during the development of her bachelor's project: a collection focusing on craftsmanship, sustainability, and timeless appeal, inspired by her grandmother and grandfather.

In her graduation collection, Zensorial, Anne-Kathrine focused on using biodegradable and recyclable textiles made from natural fibers, combined with discarded deadstock materials from the workwear manufacturer Mascot. The gender-neutral collection is a tribute to her grandmother and grandfather, blending Scandinavian simplicity with Japanese references.

“The jacket represents my grandfather, particularly through the choice of materials. Mascot Workwear uses this heavy durable fabric, which reminds me of my grandfather’s time and his coveralls. The coat symbolizes my grandmother. She was a very classic, refined, and harmonious woman. I was inspired by the traditional trench coat and Japanese elements, which can be seen in the oversized collar. The coat has openings under the arms, allowing you to slip your arms through, letting the sleeves hang or using them as a wrap, creating the sensation of receiving a hug.

On the back of the coat, I’ve woven a motif of a tree with long, strong roots. This stems from my work with the quote, ‘You gave me roots. Watch me grow,’ which reflects how my grandparents have been my roots, and this collection is my blooming. My collection balances between a classic and raw aesthetic. Some of my styles feature loose threads, stitching, and raw edges, contrasting with the clean, structured finishes found in other parts,” explains Anne-Kathrine.
