From childhood creative expression to participating in Danmarks Næste Tøjdesigner Season 2

My name is Anne-Kathrine Bech Rønn, and I’m participating in Season 2 of the design program Danmarks Næste Tøjdesigner, airing on DR1.

Growing up, I was surrounded by creative and entrepreneurial family members who inspired my own creative pursuits. Early in my childhood, I spent many afternoons sewing various stuffed animals, which gradually developed into a deeper understanding of design and experience with textiles. I love diving into the world of creativity, and sitting in front of a sewing machine is my sanctuary. In general, I have a curious mind, and exploring and experimenting enriches my daily life.

I completed my education at VIA Design and Business, where I finished my bachelor’s degree in December 2023. This has provided me with an in-depth knowledge of the fashion industry as well as a solid foundation for developing my own brand identity.

For me, the process behind a garment is long-term, and I believe that a well-executed design takes time. Craftsmanship is central and requires dedication to create a result that provides emotional value to those who choose to wear my design, BECH.

The fundamental vision for my brand, BECH, is to create clothing with a long lifespan. I strive for this by focusing on good fit, recognizable and innovative silhouettes, thoughtful details, and high quality in both materials and production.

My mission is to design clothing for a broader segment of the population by avoiding standardized and idealized body measurements, ensuring that the clothes are worn, kept, and preserved.

Aesthetically, I combine Scandinavian simplicity with Japanese references, with inspiration rooted in nature, the history of fashion, and details based on my upbringing. My focus is on quality craftsmanship and demonstrating responsibility in everything I do.

I aim to develop innovative styles with timeless appeal, using natural, biodegradable materials that support a circular mindset. I also utilize deadstock and surplus textiles, as I see it as responsible to make use of existing resources.

To create unique solutions through deadstock, I particularly use fabric manipulation methods, such as embroidery, stitching, or similar techniques, to achieve a result that matches the experimental and innovative aesthetic.

I hope that my participation in Danmarks Næste Tøjdesigner can show that when you invest time and energy into your creativity, you can achieve great results. I hope to be a source of inspiration for others, whether it’s their first time at the sewing machine or a lifelong passion, to take the leap and dive into creating.
